It is not uncommon for car enthusiasts to sit together and discuss the great cars of our times. During these conversations, names will pass their lips that have long ago secured their places in the history books and captivated enthusiasts in such a way as to guarantee the interest of people reading ten, twenty and even fifty years from now. Think of them now: Bugatti, Chevrolet, Rolls Royce, Volkswagen, Ferrari, and Jensen. They all roll off the tongue and make us aware that here is a medium that deserves our attention. The classic … hang on, did that just say “Jensen”? Yes, yes it did. What gives?

It is a little-known, but wonderful car that has been greatly admired by a seemingly small number of people. The Jensen 541S has never had the mass appreciation that is reserved for vehicles such as the Ferrari Testarossa, nor the Bugatti Veyron, and yet it is a car that is very much loved by those who own them or have spent some time either driving or learning about them. And this is not down to some kitsch ironic love, either, it is all in respect of just how good the 541S has proven to be since its heyday of the 1950s. Perhaps the reason for its lack of profile among all but the hardiest car buffs is that there were only 127 made. There may not be many of them, when it comes to quantity, but those that were made and those that survive bear testament to the quality.

There are certain vehicles that develop an aura over the years. The Toyota Land Cruiser certainly falls into that category. From a utilitarian beginning, it has become a bit more modern without losing the toughness we all loved.

Toyota has always taken a unique approach when it comes to their model lines. The company prefers to launch a model and then stick with it unlike most other car companies. The Land Cruiser is a classic example. The truck was first designed in 1951 with full scale production beginning in 1954. It has come in versions ranging from convertibles to station wagons. As it closes in on 60 years of production, the Land Cruiser is still the lead SUV model for the company. That’s staying power!

The story of the beginnings of the Land Cruiser is surprisingly mundane. The Japanese government asked the company to build a vehicle similar to the Jeep used by the United States Military to such effect. The name of the vehicle is often written as “Landcruiser”, but this is incorrect and obviously so when you know the origins of it. The name was based on the Land Rover built in England. Toyota wanted a similar name that sounded similar.

There are not many people who cannot instantly identify a Ford Crown Victoria. This car has been on the road for several decades already, and tends to be best known for its role as a police car. There is no mistaking this car on the road as it has been the symbol of law enforcement everywhere up until recently. A product of the Ford motor company, this car is a classic in its own way. This car is a full size sedan that first began it’s journey back in the 1950s. Having been around for so many decades, this car is often known as the Crown Vic.

Not only has the Crown Victoria been used as a police vehicle across the nation, it is also commonly found used in other fleets as well. From taxi cabs to business fleets, these cars have dominated that area of transportation. Of course, you will still occasionally find it used as a regular family car. That is the older models though. Starting 2008 this car became available only for fleet use, which is certainly interesting. Throughout the automotive industry changes, the Ford Crown Vic has maintained the hold it created back in the 1950s to 70s. Though it is similar to other Ford cars like the Taurus, it just is not quite the same.
