Driving a motor vehicle always involves a certain risk. More so for motorcycles drivers who has to face a grater risk compared to those who drive four-wheeled vehicles. This is a reality known to Harley motorcycle drivers who are always on the lookout for safety tips when taking their Harleys for a ride.

The cost of a Harley Davidson alone should be enough reason for any motorcycle rider to ensure that no accident befalls him every time he drives his bike. Owning a Harley is an experience in itself but damaging your motorcycle and spending thousands of dollars for its repair is no joke and is definitely an experience that any rider would want to dispense with.

The first thing that motorcycle drivers should do, and all drivers for that matter, is to conduct a quick safety check whenever they have to use their bikes. If you are bent on becoming a Harley rider then get yourself some basic knowledge and experience in motorcycle repair.

There are do-it-yourself videos, books and DVDs that will show you the basic motorcycle maintenance and repair procedures. This is an important investment especially if you want to join the thousands of Harley riders who tour cross-country most of the time. This will not only ensure your safety whenever you have to use your bike but will also save you on mechanic fees for very simple maintenance works

Among the basic things you have to be aware of if you are a rider includes the proper care of your tires and brake. You should also be knowledgeable about the basic procedures on how to change the spark plugs of your motorcycle, adjust the bike’s primary chain and how to use air filters.

Those who are religious about the safety of their Harley post a basic safety check in their garage and even carry the list with them when they go on the road. You can even give the same list to your fellow riders as a gift.

The best way to ensure your safety when riding your motorcycle is to have the basic motorcycle driving knowledge and skills. You can get this by enrolling yourself in any of the Harley Davidson Riders Course. The Harley safety and driving courses are a must for beginners and even for experienced riders who just want to make sure they got it all right. Make sure you enroll in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation-certified course.

Enrolling in a safety and riding course will familiarize you with the different motorcycle parts like the engine, throttle, clutch, brakes and lights, all of which are essential to safety driving. The course will also teach you basic motorcycle maintenance including clutch tension checking, the proper tire pressure and how to change the motorcycle oil.

Motorcycle riding is always fun especially if you know how to ride carefully and safely. Get proper training even before you get your Harley and when you have your dream motorcycle make sure you get your matching protective gear and ride on.

Malcolm Stevenson Forbes is popular for two things. First and foremost he is known as the founder of the successful Forbes magazine. Second, and perhaps he is more famous for this, as a loyal rider and collector of the Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Forbes tried to dabble in politics for a while between 1951 and 1957 but he settled to managing Forbes magazine in 1957. The success of the magazine today is evident of the hard work invested by Forbes in his business. But all work and no play can make jack, in this case Malcolm, a dull boy so he compensated hard work with a very lavish lifestyle which included his priceless art collection, a B727 trijet named Capitalist Tool, yachts and of course, his collection of Harley motorcycles.

His name has always been included in the list of top Harley motorcycle collectors. In fact, he always topped the list thanks to his over-50 Harley motorcycle collection. Forbes is known to mingle with the most powerful people from Hollywood, politics and business. He is a known close friend of movie legend Elizabeth Taylor who received the Purple Passion Harley Davidson motorcycle from him as a gift.

He has led quite a busy life building his name and fortune that hobbies cam late for Malcolm Forbes. He started his love affair with motorcycles when he was in his late 40s and has in fact formed and led a motorcycle club known as Capitalist Tools. New Jersey motorcycle enthusiasts who belonged to his circle often congregated in his New Jersey estate.

While Forbes had a stable of motorcycles as part of his collection, he was terribly loyal to the Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was so passionate about motorcycles and riding such that motorists should give him credit for being instrumental in the passage of the law which allowed motorcycles to pass through the New Jersey Garden State Parkway in New Jersey which used to be a cars-only area.

His passion for the two-wheeled vehicle was honored in 1999 when he was inducted to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. No one has perhaps influenced the way people looked at motorcycles the way Forbes did with his high publicized motorcycle adventures along with his powerful group of business leaders, celebrities and even members of the fourth estate or the press.

Motorcycles used to be identified with the rugged and the bum but that was before Forbes and his rich and famous friends were publicly seen riding their Harleys. He has made people realize that motorcycle riding is a socially acceptable behavior which can become a satisfying pastime for all types of people, rich or poor.

He is known for criticizing the critics of motorcycles even if they come from the halls of Congress. He said those who hurled legislative assaults on motorcycle riders do not know a thing about motorcycles. His efforts were acknowledged by motorcycle groups like the AMA which gave him the AMA Hazel Kolb Brighter Image Awards. The award, which was given to Forbes in 1987 or three years before he died, is the highest award given by the association for people who have generated positive motorcycling publicity.

Malcolm Forbes is perhaps the only individual who has his name etched in two motorcycle museums: the Motorcycle hall of Fame Museum in Ohio as well as the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee

Many of us have scooter that have starting or stalling-out problems. For some of us, it’s the whole fuse setup that is causing our problems, and here are the top 3 solutions.

There is a small fuse box next to the battery on the main red battery cable. There is a fuse inside that white plastic housing. It also has an extra replacement fuse in most of these scooters.

When our scooters don’t start or start to stall on us, we check the fuse first in our repair shop; so I suggest everyone try that step as well. I have had a few cases that the fuse looks fine, but we replaced it anyways with the extra fuse, and the scooter started right up. First of all, realize that might be one solution; but here is another unknown problem and solution we might not know that is happening at the same time:

We’ve replaced the fuse and the scooter starts up, so we think we solved the problem, when actually we didn’t. What we didn’t know is that the fuse that was already in there, was working just fine. The new fuse worked because we worked with the fuse holder replacing the fuse, not realizing the problem was the fuse holder. By simply playing with it, it made contact again and the scooter started. Sometimes these plastic cases melt and can cause a short. Even if it doesn’t look melted, it doesn’t mean it’s making a good connection.

The fuse box connectors in these scooters are very cheap quality. I recommend replacing the holder unit, the clips with a more heavy duty connector clip, and of course, the fuse.

All too often, we hear about people on motorcycles and bicycles being injured or killed in accidents. Sometimes, it is clear that another motorist is at fault, but that does not change the outcome. Since a car or truck is many times larger than the two-wheeled vehicle, the cyclist pays the higher price.

The same is true with gas motor scooters. While they are faster than bicycles, they can still have the same problems: moving slower than the surrounding traffic, and being difficult for other drivers to see. Fortunately, it only takes some basic practices to make riding a scooter safe and enjoyable. Here are a few tips on how to arrive at your destination without incident.

The first safety rule for scooter drivers can be summed up in one word: awareness. Just as with bicyclists, you should always be alert and anticipating what could go wrong while on the road. For instance, when driving a scooter, you should never ride on the far right side of the lane, especially when there are parked cars or blind intersections. If you stay in the left half of the lane, opening car doors and trucks pulling out of alleys will be easier to avoid.

Sometimes, of course, it is going to be difficult to determine what might happen. When in doubt, slow down. Do not come to a complete stop, but decelerate just a few miles per hour to see how a situation near you may develop.

For example, a scooter being tailgated by a car is in a very vulnerable position. As the rider, it is tempting to move over to the right, but this may encourage the driver to try to squeeze by, passing perilously close to your scooter. Stay in the left half of the lane, but watch the behavior of the driver in your mirrors. If they show signs of agitation or anger, find the next available place to turn off, signal with both blinker and hand, and pull over to let them pass. If a left turn lane is available, make your “escape” in that direction, as it will get you out of the driver’s path much more quickly and safely.

Speaking of tailgating, this is just as bad a thing for a scooter rider to do as it is for other drivers. Always leave plenty of room between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. If you follow too closely, you may not have time to miss the pothole or debris that suddenly appears from under the vehicle in front of you.

Finally, scooter drivers should wear protective gear, just as a motorcyclist would. Some scooters can reach speeds of 80 mph; taking a tumble at that velocity could have terrible consequences. Always, always wear a helmet. As for the rest of your attire, jeans, boots, and eye protection are all excellent choices. None of this gear will necessarily prevent injury, but it will help keep it from being serious.

Do not be discouraged from buying a new scooter because of these challenges, however. Riding a gas scooter is a great way to save money, help the environment and have fun. Obviously, there are other safety considerations for riding a motor scooter besides those described here, but if you start by developing the habits of staying alert, slowing down at any sign of potential trouble, and leaving room in front of you to react, you will enjoy many wonderful, accident-free hours on the road.

By far, the biggest problem with shopping for leather online is getting the size right. Most leather motorcycle apparel today is manufactured in Pakistan, India, and China, and sizing standards will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

It is standard practice that the consumer pays for all shipping costs in a size exchange transaction, the logic being that if you had taken the time to measure you’d have gotten it right the first time! So take the time to read the size chart, and measure! Just because you normally wear a large is not going to cut it. Some very reputable leather apparel manufacturers recommend that you size up one, two, even three sizes larger.

Sizing Up the Female Body

Getting the right size of a leather motorcycle jacket for a woman can be especially frustrating. The size of a motorcycle jacket is determined by chest measurement. As you can imagine, women’s breasts vary tremendously in size! If you are a woman of average proportion, then by all means measure, use the size chart, and size up when appropriate. If you are a 44 Double D and 5′4″ tall, you can bet it’s not going to be easy!

Most vendors genuinely want to get it right the first time, sparing their customers the expense of a costly size exchange. If you are a man or woman of extreme proportions, contact the merchant via the contact page. Indicate the item you’re interested in, and provide them with your chest measurement (normally in inches), bust measurement or bra size, and waist measurement where appropriate. Sleeve and body length are pretty standard, so if you are extra tall, or have extra long arms, you may want to ask about tall sizes.

Just remember, if you normally wear a large, and end up with a 3XL, don’t take it personally. It’s not you, the jacket is meant to be upsized!

The Restocking Fee

Some merchants (by no means all) will charge a restocking fee for returned merchandise, which can be anywhere from 10% to 30% of the cost of the product. This is a legitimate practice that offsets the cost that the vendor incurs from the warehouse, and is also meant to discourage frivolous shoppers, of which there are many on the web.

If you are browsing a site and see something you think you might like, you may want to see it first before you decide if you want to keep it. You may certainly do that, but keep in mind online shopping is not like going around the corner to your local Kmart.

Any online leather dealer would much rather sell you something else than to go through the tedious return process. The ones that believe in their product, and know it’s presented in an accurate and upfront way, have a hard timing accepting an “I don’t like it”, or “it wasn’t what I expected” as a reason for a return.

At the very least, even if the merchant doesn’t charge a restocking fee, you will be out the shipping charges both from and to the warehouse.

If on the other hand, the merchant is unable to accommodate the customer in any way, a restocking fee should never be charged.

Out of Stock

Think of a leather motorcycle apparel web site as a catalog. As an authorized dealer for one or multiple manufacturers, they will naturally want to promote many if not all of the products of those manufacturers.

Product comes in and goes out of stock all the time. Once a particular item goes into production on the manufacturing side, it can take six to eight weeks to reach the warehouse, a month of that time being spent on the high seas.

You can expect that not all items in all sizes in the catalogue are in stock at the same time. Before you buy, it might be a good idea to contact the website (after carefully determining your size) to inquire about the availability of a particular item. In many cases, the vendor should be able to give you an ETA of the replenished stock.

Shopping for leather motorcycle apparel online can and should be a rewarding experience. Online retailers like smooth transactions and are happy to take the time to assist the consumer in getting it right the first time. As an informed consumer, take the time to read the policies, know the pitfalls, and by all means contact the vendor if you have any questions or uncertainties before you buy!

Helmets are indispensable objects for all motorbike riders. Those wearing helmets are better protected against head injuries in road accidents, and in fact even the possibility of head injuries is a lot lower if you wear helmets. This fact has been reiterated and backed up with considerable proofs in researches conducted throughout the country. It has been said that wearing helmets bring down the risk of a head injury to just 15%; whereas the figure is a lot higher if you don’t wear helmets. Another body of people claims that helmets are the savior in motor accidents that would have otherwise been fatal.

The Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System study, better known as the CODES study says that helmets prevent brain injuries, and that bikers without helmets are three times more susceptible to brain injuries in an accident than those with helmets. The importance of wearing helmets has also been stressed upon by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It has also been proved that a relaxation in the motorcycle helmet laws in a state causes more accidents in that state.

Most bikers check the material that the helmet is made of when buying one. However, that is not the only area of consideration. Whereas material and proper fitting do matter, it ultimately boils down to whether the helmet is really keeping you safe. The “safety” question is therefore one of supreme importance. Here are some tips to help you buy a helmet that really protects you from every obstacle.

• Visibility Factor

This is one factor you should check thoroughly when you buy a helmet. The helmet should not restrict your visibility as it’s important for every biker to make every move with caution. A helmet which blocks your peripheral vision is not the right one. Even if the helmet covers your head well, it should leave some way for you to see where you’re going. A helmet that facilitates clear visibility also goes a long way in preventing road accidents as this helps you to steer clear of any obstacle.

• Material and Color

The material that the helmet is made of is also an important factor to keep in mind. The material should be strong enough to protect your head from any injury in case the need arises. The color of the helmet should be bright enough for other drivers to be able to locate you at night, or from a distance.

• Shape

You must try on the helmet before you buy it to see if it fits you properly. A helmet that is too tight may damage your skull, and on the other hand one that is too big and comes off at the slightest bounce is of no use in case of an accident. The helmet must fit well and be comfortable at the same time. In case the helmet is ill fitting, you can try out helmet liners which make the fitting better and more comfortable. However, you have to try out several helmets in that case.

In case you’re trying to find a helmet that suits all the above conditions, you can search the websites of manufacturers to see if they meet these safety clauses, or even talk to any manufacturer you know.

Finding Wholesale Raser scooters has become a lot easier these days. This scooter has lots of great features and buying it wholesale offers lots of advantages. Wholesale sources sell them for as little as $450, including delivery.

The Raser scooter has the same dimensions as the Mosquito Tiger, but its hill climbing capacity has been greatly improved. It has all the power you would expect from a big scooter, without the price tag, especially if bought wholesale.

Raser scooters can climb the steepest hills with ease, yet are much quieter than bigger scooters. They come with an automatic clutch, with can be left idle after starting the scooter.

If you are interested in getting a Raser you should avoid buying from your local dealer. These stores usually have very high overhead and have to charge more to the consumer in order to make a profit.

If you want to save lots of money dealing directly with a wholesaler is your best option. You can easily save hundreds of dollars by buying from them. Many of them will also handle shipping and handling, saving you even more. All of these savings really add up.

Some wholesalers will even help you choose the right scooter for your needs. This can be very important as it is easy to make mistakes when buying a scooter. If, for instance, you don’t know how much weight the scooter can handle, it may slow down a lot and you will not get the mileage you should.

Raser scooters are great machines and buying them from wholesale sources is the best way to get the best deal.
