Four Things to Consider when Choosing a Motorcycle Parts Dealer

May 26, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

At some point, it is very likely that you will need to purchase parts for your motorcycle. Whether you need parts to maintain the performance, quality, and/or safety of your bike, or if it’s simply a case of wanting to buy an accessory to help personalize your motorcycle’s looks—it is important for you to find a trusted dealer with a wide range of products. There are a ton of parts dealers, and an internet search will give you plenty of options, perhaps too many options. Here are some questions you can look into when dealing with websites and dealerships:

Does the parts dealer also sell motorcycles?

A dealer that sells bikes in addition to parts will usually have a better understanding of customer needs in terms of parts and accessories. Also, these types of dealers usually have a wider range of products, are well-established, and have access to help for customers for installing parts.

May 26, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

If you are anything like me, and for your sake, I hope you are not—when you want something, you don’t always take the time to think things through and get the best possible product. For some reason this seems especially true when dealing with items that are very costly, which makes that instant gratification habit doubly worse. Today I want to discuss some steps to take when purchasing a motorcycle.

Sure, it would be cool to buy the biggest baddest bike on the block, but you will be much better off if you can display a little patience, which in the long run could save you some trouble and lots of money.

The Evolution of Dirt Bikes and Motocross

May 26, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

The evolution of off-road motorcycles, commonly called dirt bikes, is a long and complicated story. The first motorcycles were actually nothing more than modified bicycles with attached gasoline engines. These powered bicycles were amazing inventions in their day. Unreliable, but amazing methods of transportation, these motorcycles began captivating people across the globe. Since paved streets were not quite the norm at the time, motorcycles generally could be considered dirt bikes right from the start. No single person or company has been credited with the invention of the dirt bike. Off-road motorcycling is really an evolution of many years, with better tires, better suspension and seats, stronger frames, and better control features being credited to many individuals who were essentially modifying their own bikes for better off-road use. Triumph motorcycles did however design a motorcycle specifically built for dirt riding in 1914, although this model is not actually credited with being the first dirt bike.

Riding in Cold Weather

May 22, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

Of course you already know that it’s even more important than usual to drive safely when the weather is cold. In bad weather conditions, it’s necessary to pay attention to wet and icy roads, to make the riding experience as safe as possible.

Don’t forget to keep warm. Liners under helmets can help keep heat in, and of course don’t forget to dress properly—hopefully you have some cold weather riding gear. It’s much easier to drive, and keep your concentration sharp when your body is warm. Getting too cold can cause our body reactions to slow down, and if you start thinking about how cold you are, you might not notice the patch of ice that’s coming up. Especially keep your hands warm—a good pair of gloves are vital to ensuring an enjoyable ride in cold weather.

Checklist for Dirt Bike Parts

May 22, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

All motorcycles are vulnerable to some wear and tear, depending on the conditions in which they are used. Dirt bikes are built to be durable and to take some punishment, but they too, sometimes need parts replacements. It’s important to conduct regular routine checks on parts to ensure that your bike is always in good running shape.

Regular Parts Checks

1. Bearings. To check bearings, you need to put your bike on a stand with the front wheel off the ground. Then try and move the forks. If there is movement besides the normal suspension travel, there is a good chance that you should replace the bearings.

1. Engine. First start up your bike. If you have a two stroke engine, listen for any odd sounds. If you hear slapping or snapping sounds, the piston may be worn and might need to be replaced. If your bike has a four stroke engine listen to the top of the engine motor for rhythmic noises, and make sure that there aren’t any rumbling or growling sounds coming from the bottom of the engine.

Honda Fireblade Review

All the things which made the Honda Fireblade the fastest around the track and our favourite 1000cc superbike last year still ring true. The Honda is still impossibly easy to jump on and ride fast, being smooth, beautifully balanced and predictable, with superb handling.

It was another bike that needed lots of tweaking to get it to behave around the circuit, mainly through controlling the damping at each end to stabilise it under acceleration and braking. The only real limit to its cornering ability is the pegs, which go down easily with these sticky Michelin Power One tyres fitted.

May 17, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

Ford used auto parts
, or those of any other car manufacturer, can save customers an astonishing amount of money, especially when compared to buying a new vehicle. If your car can be repaired for far less than the costs you would face when thinking of possibly having to replace it, in this economy that is the smart way to go.

After all, as soon as you started driving your car, even if it was brand new, the parts became used. So if your car runs on these “used” parts, if you can get quality replacements from a 25-year-old established company, and if you have someone who is experienced at replacing those parts in your vehicle, you can expect to continue to run your car for quite some time to come.

Using an ecommerce website that you can turn to in order to purchase online the exact parts that are needed from an inventory of over 80 million auto parts is the way to go. Most vendors stock such popular parts as alternators, carburetors, engine assemblies, master cylinders, a/c compressors, mirrors, fenders, headlights and tail lights, radiators, fuel pumps, and much more.

May 17, 2009 · Filed Under Motorcycles · Comments Off

The Harley Davidson has always been the all American symbol for freedom and individuality. One of the first motorbikes of its kind, the Harley Davidson has been the symbol for being on the road and embarking on a roller coaster ride of reckless fortune. Over the years, the bike has been associated with a slew of American underground films, which include Kenneth Anger’s path breaking short film called Scorpio Rising. During the late 1960s, leading to the late 1970s which were the prime years of the Flower Power movement. Sex, drugs and rock n’ roll were in vogue then and this was where the concept of the hobo became increasingly popular. A short form of the expression “homeward bound,” the hobo was the man who gave up everything in search of a quest o a higher truth through which he tried to make sense of the reality around him. Jack Kerouac’s “The Dharma Bums,” and “On the Road,” were two prolific novels which emphasized on the spirit of freedom during that time.
