As you plan to spend on your car after you have bought it you will have a wide variety of products to choose from. If you are a car enthusiast you should enjoy this process of understanding, evaluating and choosing a product.

The process starts with understanding a product. For some products such as car body kits this is not such a difficult step. However for several other products this will take some effort. Also there is the issue of how deeply you will understand a product. You can get either some superficial knowledge or indepth detailed knowledge. You may not have the time to understand all of them fully but you should take time to understand them as much as you can.

Car aftermarket products can be categorized as below:

1. Products that enhance the looks of the car
2. Products that enhance the performance of the car
3. Products that do both

Is it that simple? Well not quite. Because several products do both but are really used for only one of the two reasons.

Body kits are primarily used for improving the looks of the car. In general products that improve the looks impact the color scheme of the car and the styling of the car. They may also include adornments.

Products like engine pulleys only enhance the performance and are not visible and so have no visual impact. In general products that improve the car performance improve the aerodynamic performance, the engine performance, the performance of other car parts such as lights or the control and handling of the car.

Amongst products that improve both performance and looks are products such as projector headlights that look great and also flood the road with light at night. Another such product is a camber kit. Though the kit by itself is not very visible if you change the camber of your car by a significant amount it will be clear you have got a camber kit installed.

Another example is a cold air intake that is used mostly because it improves engine performance but since the air intake has a visual component it also enhances the visual appeal of the car.

Body kits serve the dual purpose of enhancing the looks and improving the aerodynamics. For a street car the primary purpose tends to be the looks. Performance is secondary. Therefore the main consideration while choosing body kits are the looks and style, besides other considerations such as durability and cost.

However for a racing car performance cannot be compromised. And the racing car body kits should serve to improve the aerodynamics. One of the first considerations is that the body kit should be light weight. A heavy body kit will drag down the performance of the car.

For the aerodynamics enhancement it is important to consider body kits that have been tested to improve the aerodynamics. It should have smooth contours that allow the air to bend and pass through easily without creating a large drag force. However it is difficult to judge how aerodynamically efficient a body kit is just by looking at it.

For a high level racing car the design and testing of the car’s contours are a highly refined science and also a highly refined art. Aerodynamics involves some of the most complex engineering and testing requires expensive equipment like wind tunnels. Even a small change in a contour can have a large impact on the aerodynamic performance of the component. Therefore if you are looking for an aerodynamically tested component it is best to buy from a manufacturer that gives details of their aerodynamic testing.

Besides the standard front and rear bumpers there are other body kits components that you should consider. Spoilers for example will help make your car drive more stable in racing conditions.

Racing car body kits need professional installation. It is very important that the individual components are installed correctly and there is no danger of a component installation getting compromised during racing. Racing cars usually also have elaborate graphics. Therefore it would be a good idea to get the installation done at a body shop which would be able to do all the related work as well.

If you have just bought yourself a new car then you are poised to enjoy personalizing it. You can personalize it to reflect your choice of colors and your taste in style. You can also make it suitable for your comfort related preferences. Finally if you are a performance car buff there are many products you can add to boost its performance.

The first aftermarket products many people consider are body kits. You will find a wide range of body kits are available and you will surely be able to find one that you like.

Even with body kits you have a choice of a basic body kit with front and rear bumpers or more elaborate ones with side skirting, spoilers and other surfaces that can be added to the exterior of your car.

However if you want to enhance the looks of your car you don’t have to stop with body kits. You can add a hood scoop, window louvers, car mirror, new stylish headlights, great looking tail lights and a host of other products. Quite a few of these products will enhance the look and also improve the performance. For example projector headlights look great and they also make your night driving safe by really lighting up the road brightly.

For performance there are a whole range of products for you to consider. Such as cold air intakes, racing seats, engine pulleys, racing pedal pads, coilovers cat-back exhaust, lowering springs and many more. Some of these products improve the performance significantly and some give a small boost. However if you are into high performance driving every little bit counts and you should consider all products in depth to decide how best to spend your budget. You can find more information on car aftermarket products at www.ilovebodykits.com.

The internet is a good place to gather information on the various products that are available. You can read the details and see pictures. And when you are making the final decision to buy you can compare prices.

Your car is a lot like your home. Once you have the basics in place you can enjoy doing it up to match your style and improve your comfort.
