Mahindra Xylo, the vehicle that has taken the MPV market by storm since its launch, comes packed with the most modern technological breakthroughs. After offering features like the mEagle engine developed on the NEF CRDe platform, the Engine Immobiliser that makes the car theft resistant, The ultrasonic sensors embedded in the rear of the car that assist reverse parking, the digital drive assist system that downloads all kinds of drive related information to you on the fly, the Xylo now offers the ABS Brakes or Anti-Lock Braking System which improves the vehicle’s stability by preventing the wheels from locking when brakes are applied on any skid-prone surface (snow, water, loose gravel, or even oil).

The basic function of ABS Brakes is to prevent the wheels on a vehicle from locking while braking. The advantage of a rotating wheel is that it allows steering control even under heavy braking by preventing skid of the wheel and allowing it to tractively interact with the road surface all the time.

ABS Brakes Operation

Typical ABS Brakes or Anti-Lock Braking System is composed of three components:

1. Electronic Control Unit
2. Wheel Speed Sensors
3. Two or more Hydraulic Valves within the brake hydraulics.

The Control Unit constantly monitors the speed sensors. It is meant to detect decelerations that are unusual. There will be rapid deceleration in the wheel right before it locks up. The wheel that locks up could stop spinning instantaneously Without ABS Brakes.

On the other hand, in a vehicle with ABS Brakes, the ABS controller understands that such rapid deceleration is impossible. So, it reduces the pressure to the brake until acceleration is detected, then it increases the pressure until a deceleration is detected again. It can do this at a very fast rate, before the tire can actually significantly change speed. This eventually leads to the tire to slow down at the same rate as the car, with the brakes keeping the car on the threshold of a lock-up. This gives the system maximum braking power.

Brake Pedal “Pulsation” is normal during the operation of ABS Brakes. The driver is required to keep the pressure on the brake pedal hard enough even under the pulsations. The pulsations may be quite violent, but this is normal. In an emergency stop in a car with ABS Brakes, the driver should apply the brake firmly and hold it while ABS does its work.

ABS Brakes have been introduced in the higher end model of Mahindra Xylo, the E8, on basis of customer feedback and suggestions. Depending on the demand, this feature may be introduced in other variants of Xylo too.

ABS Brakes makes Xylo an even safer vehicle to drive.

Attractive cars have unique features and Mahindra Xylo is the MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) that has a gamut of unique features. Here are just six of the many features that Xylo packs inside its solid frame.

Flatbed Seats

The front seats of Xylo convert into flat beds. These flatbed front seats let you travel fully stretched. You can enjoy new degrees of comfort on long drives.

Digital Drive Assist System

The most revolutionary feature of Mahindra Xylo is the tech-savvy Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS). It has features such as an onboard computer to calculate mileage and distance permissible. It provides useful data.

Standard information available includes date, time, inside and outside temperature and relative humidity, gear position, speed. The information which can be extremely useful includes how long your fuel will last, information on your average speed and instant mileage. There is also the feature which tells you which direction the Xylo is headed in.

2 Din Audio System

DIN refers to a standardized radio/stereo size for vehicles (large enough to accept a CD). 1 DIN is the standard DIN specification. 2 DIN or double DIN refers to units that are twice as high as the standard DIN, half DIN is half high as 1 DIN. Xylo’s 2 Din Audio System comes with ergonomically designed buttons and a large display. It has a wide range of data input options from SD cards, USB Drives, aux-in facility and plays MP3 discs too.

ABS (Anti-lock Braking System

Intellipark Reverse System

Ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper allow you easy and smooth reverse parking. The vehicle starts beeping when it comes within 120 cm of any object, so that you don’t inadvertently drive into the bumper of a car behind or even a wall.

Foldable Flight Trays

Now you can grab a bite while on a drive right inside your Mahindra Xylo. You might have seen the foldable flight trays in aircrafts, but never in a car. Mahindra Xylo also features the Foldable Flight Trays that open up from the rear of the front seats.

Now you know the 6 features of Mahindra Xylo which form a part of the Mahindra Xylo “LETS ME FLY” Contest. The Contest ends by 30th August, 2009 and here is what you have to do.
