By far, the biggest problem with shopping for leather online is getting the size right. Most leather motorcycle apparel today is manufactured in Pakistan, India, and China, and sizing standards will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

It is standard practice that the consumer pays for all shipping costs in a size exchange transaction, the logic being that if you had taken the time to measure you’d have gotten it right the first time! So take the time to read the size chart, and measure! Just because you normally wear a large is not going to cut it. Some very reputable leather apparel manufacturers recommend that you size up one, two, even three sizes larger.

Sizing Up the Female Body

Getting the right size of a leather motorcycle jacket for a woman can be especially frustrating. The size of a motorcycle jacket is determined by chest measurement. As you can imagine, women’s breasts vary tremendously in size! If you are a woman of average proportion, then by all means measure, use the size chart, and size up when appropriate. If you are a 44 Double D and 5′4″ tall, you can bet it’s not going to be easy!

Most vendors genuinely want to get it right the first time, sparing their customers the expense of a costly size exchange. If you are a man or woman of extreme proportions, contact the merchant via the contact page. Indicate the item you’re interested in, and provide them with your chest measurement (normally in inches), bust measurement or bra size, and waist measurement where appropriate. Sleeve and body length are pretty standard, so if you are extra tall, or have extra long arms, you may want to ask about tall sizes.

Just remember, if you normally wear a large, and end up with a 3XL, don’t take it personally. It’s not you, the jacket is meant to be upsized!

The Restocking Fee

Some merchants (by no means all) will charge a restocking fee for returned merchandise, which can be anywhere from 10% to 30% of the cost of the product. This is a legitimate practice that offsets the cost that the vendor incurs from the warehouse, and is also meant to discourage frivolous shoppers, of which there are many on the web.

If you are browsing a site and see something you think you might like, you may want to see it first before you decide if you want to keep it. You may certainly do that, but keep in mind online shopping is not like going around the corner to your local Kmart.

Any online leather dealer would much rather sell you something else than to go through the tedious return process. The ones that believe in their product, and know it’s presented in an accurate and upfront way, have a hard timing accepting an “I don’t like it”, or “it wasn’t what I expected” as a reason for a return.

At the very least, even if the merchant doesn’t charge a restocking fee, you will be out the shipping charges both from and to the warehouse.

If on the other hand, the merchant is unable to accommodate the customer in any way, a restocking fee should never be charged.

Out of Stock

Think of a leather motorcycle apparel web site as a catalog. As an authorized dealer for one or multiple manufacturers, they will naturally want to promote many if not all of the products of those manufacturers.

Product comes in and goes out of stock all the time. Once a particular item goes into production on the manufacturing side, it can take six to eight weeks to reach the warehouse, a month of that time being spent on the high seas.

You can expect that not all items in all sizes in the catalogue are in stock at the same time. Before you buy, it might be a good idea to contact the website (after carefully determining your size) to inquire about the availability of a particular item. In many cases, the vendor should be able to give you an ETA of the replenished stock.

Shopping for leather motorcycle apparel online can and should be a rewarding experience. Online retailers like smooth transactions and are happy to take the time to assist the consumer in getting it right the first time. As an informed consumer, take the time to read the policies, know the pitfalls, and by all means contact the vendor if you have any questions or uncertainties before you buy!

The Harley Davidson motorcycle was and always will be an American icon. Although other American motorcycle companies have flourished, none has had the staying power of Harley. Over a hundred years after its inception, the Harley Davidson motorcycle company is stronger and better received by the American public than ever before. Its line of motorcycles is diverse enough that it appeals to both men and women and priced for those on a wide range of budgets. The bikes themselves are only the start. The clothing, accessories, and memorabilia are an extension of the motorcycle and the entire concept of the Harley lifestyle reaches outward to interest just about anyone with a fascination of two-wheeled transportation.

Harley Davidson began its illustrious history in Milwaukee, Wisconsin back in 1903. The pioneers were Bill Harley and Arthur Walter Davidson and the entire operation was located inside of a wooden barn built by Mr Davidson’s father. They woudl remain in the barn manufacturing their motorcycles until 1912 when they would relocate into a multi-level building, reportedly six stories high. The Harley Davidson motorcycle company was started with the design of a one cylinder engine which developed specifically for racing and grew from there. In 1905 they had produced eleven motorcycles and by 1908 the number had grown to one hundred fifty four. By 1912 they had begun to export their motorcycles with the first motorized bike being sold overseas in Japan. The quest for world peace also fueled the sales of Harley motorcycles in the coming years. Harley was the largest supplier of motorcycles for the United States military. Their patriotism and reliable motorcycles helped the war effort and added to the company’s ever-growing group of enthusiasts. Two wheeled transportation was proving to be a viable means of moving about versus traveling by automobile. Over the next few decades, the company continued its growth and presence on the roads of the United States and around the world. Motorcycling, however, was about to get something it never had before… a bad reputation.

During the fifties, Americans viewed the release of movies depicting motorcyclists as less than honorable citizens. The term biker gang was introduced to the world and there was no going back from here. Rebellious bikers had come to be associated with Harley Davidson motorcycles thanks to a bit of Hollywood make-believe and the imaginations of the movie goers. The success of these biker flicks fueled even more bad-boy biker films especially during the sixties and seventies. Movie goers would have a better chance of finding a needle in a haystack than finding movies with honorable and honest bikers. The whole concept of the Harley motorcycle would never be the same from this point forward. The attitude, the attire, the tattoos, and the owner loyalty would go well beyond that of any other brand of motorcycle. To this day, regardless of innovations in imported motorcycles, Harley remains as good motorcycle as any in the world. Harley owners rarely defect to different brands. The motorcycle’s simplicity and timeless design help promote the brand loyalty. To many owners, very simply the concept of riding a symbol of American ingenuity through the city streets or country roads of America is enough. Harley sounds like no other bike, looks like no other bike, and feels like no other bike. Most Harley owners would agree that it’s the only motorcycle for them. Biker rallies and get-togethers draw more and more motorcycle enthusiasts every year. Whether you consider the motorcycle a means of transportation, or a means of relaxation, depends on your overall opinion of two-wheeled travel. Harley Davidson, however, is guaranteed to remain at the forefront of the industry for decades to come based purely on owner loyalty and genuine love for the ultimate American motorcycle.

Of course you already know that it’s even more important than usual to drive safely when the weather is cold. In bad weather conditions, it’s necessary to pay attention to wet and icy roads, to make the riding experience as safe as possible.

Don’t forget to keep warm. Liners under helmets can help keep heat in, and of course don’t forget to dress properly—hopefully you have some cold weather riding gear. It’s much easier to drive, and keep your concentration sharp when your body is warm. Getting too cold can cause our body reactions to slow down, and if you start thinking about how cold you are, you might not notice the patch of ice that’s coming up. Especially keep your hands warm—a good pair of gloves are vital to ensuring an enjoyable ride in cold weather.

It’s always best to completely avoid slippery spots in the road. If those spots can’t be avoided, make sure you are driving at a reasonable speed to be able to deal with any wet and/or slippery areas. Be sure to reduce your speed enough when you are going around corners—it can be harder to stop if the roads are in less than perfect shape.

When you need to brake on slippery surfaces—it is usually best to use both brakes. Applying the brakes slowly and gradually can help keep the front wheel from locking up. Also, if you are moving at a very low speed, you can try using your feet to help by letting them slide on the road—this can also help prevent a fall.

Be especially vigilant for obstacles, debris, and oil spots in the road—anticipate any potential problems, and manage your speed appropriately.

By being smart, and keeping warm, you can effectively and comfortably ride in cold weather, which can extend your riding season.

(NAPS)—To steer this riding season in the right direction, you’ll want to make sure your motorcycle—and your motorcycle insurance policy—are in good working order before hitting the open road.

While you should always check your owner’s manual for specific guidelines, here are some general tips for getting ready:

1. Change the oil and filter. Many manufacturers recommend changing the oil and filter before storing a bike for any extended period of time and again when you bring it back out for riding season. Be sure to first start up the motor-cycle to warm the engine and then shut it off before changing the oil and filter.

2. Check the belt or chain. Make sure it is set to the manufacturer’s recommended tension. And if you have a chain, lubricate it.

3. Check nuts and bolts. Start off the riding season with a solid bike. Make sure everything is tight. “A well-maintained motorcycle not only assures a fun time, it can save you money by avoiding accidents, which helps to keep your insurance rates down,” says Rick Stern, motorcycle product manager, The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies.

4. Inspect tires. Look for any damage and also make sure each tire is inflated to the correct pres-sure. You’ve only got two tires, so for maximum stability it is very important to avoid under inflation as well as over inflation.

5. Look for fluid leaks. The easiest way to check for this is to look at the floor under the motor-cycle. Leaking oil or brake, radiator or clutch fluid can cause their own special problems. For example, being low on brake fluid could make it hard to stop your motor-cycle. You don’t want to find that out after you’re already on the road.

6. Check all lights. Make sure headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals are all functioning properly.

7. Brush up on your riding skills. Find a safe place to practice riding skills such as fast stops, figure eights, U-turns, etc., so you’re ready for the season. You’ll be glad you did.

8. Update your policy. Per-haps one of the most important things you can do at the start of the season is review your insurance coverage to be certain you, and your bike, are covered. Talk to your local independent insurance agent.

Texas Prime Insurance represents many companies and they can help you to understand the cover-ages you need. We can also help you find the combination of price and service that’s right for you. Visit our Web site at http://www.texasprimeinsurance.com

Did You Know?

To steer this riding season in the right direction, you’ll want to make sure your motorcycle— and your motorcycle insurance policy—are in good working order before hitting the open road.

The night seems to be friendly, as you rip through it in a fast speeding bike to a place you do not know; the road ahead is lit up in an eerie lonely orange glow, and you keep on riding, as if somehow floating in an orange space where the air seems so much lighter, smoother; the wind lashes out, but somehow its whips are softened by the numbing thrill of the excitement to be free, to be unrestrained.

Or a road trip in the day, across paddy fields and under the rocky mountain high gives you the same sensation which seems to be from out of this world. You can roar on, and you feel the sun’s warmth kissing your back softly, the touch of its scorching lips somehow soothed by the cool blowing winds. Your shirt flaps in the air; you can feel the pulse of engine as it almost throttles you in its vivacity. You feel like you are the master of the road, of the fields and the mountains, of the world and its people. You truly feel like God.

All bike lovers are willing to live on the edge and more often, off it! They are willing to play on the borderline, and they get a great kick out of toying with their machine. They want to push on beyond boundaries, and they really live life to the lees, unlike what people think of them however.

It is a common habit to typify and classify people in groups, and often so, when it is not done smartly, it results in stereotypes.
